Silver City NM, day 13
This early am I managed to sleep a bit in the bathroom, nice and warm and out of the wind. Monte was already there, having moved in as soon as the heavy rain started. Matt also got flooded out, but he just sat in the trailer. 1st RVer comes in bathroom for a shower at 4am, so I pack up and gather all my soaked stuff under a porch roof. Meanwhile Matt was starting coffee and hot water, so a very early and very appreciated breakfast beginnings. Most folks aren't quite so wet, having pitched tents in the better spots.
Out into the prairie and begin long climb, gradual at first but soon steep, as we cross the continental divide. On the way up I chat with guy coming down walking across country pushing a jogging stroller. Andrew Kivett left GA in July.
And roll on, down and up and down to Silver City, 46 mile day, done by 1 oclock, to nice RV park where we dry our stuff and get to camp on a lawn (though it does have a sprinkler system --- with our luck...) This will be where we take a rest day, 750 miles, 2 weeks, 1/4 of the way.
