Lordsburg NM, day 12

New state, same headwind. And another rider has left us, Joe due to leg strain  issues. Not clear if he will be able to rejoin us, pending visit to his doctor.

Showers in Stafford, and more as we ride into increasing wind, slight uphill, hard riding. Rain stops and sun comes out in Duncan, cute western town featuring the Sandra Day O'Connor sidewalk to nowhere, complete with old-fashioned streetlamps. Plus Hilda's restaurant, where most of us sit down for 2nd breakfast. Wind seems to have stopped, but that's only an illusion, leaving town it returns in force for the long trek to Lordsburg across the state line.

New Mexico means we enter mountain time zone. And suitably monstrous thunderstorms with dramatic lightning during the night. Our KOA campground quickly floods, sending a river through my tent. I grab what I can and go sleep in the bathroom. Clothes pack, sleeping bag, and foam pad are dry enough, but everything else gets soaked. Just yank up tent and everything else and dump on covered picnic table of RV next door. So minimal sleep to go with yet another tiring day,  76 miles. But it's an adventure, as we are want to say when complaining. Now if I had only acted on impulse to rent a cabin.
