Apache Gold Casino and RV Park, Globe AZ
We are camping primitive tonight, on a fresh scraped dirt field with goathead thorns everywhere. No showers, not even a motel (closed due to Covid), just bathrooms in the convenience store, and presumably the casino. Bizarre. A beer now in the shade and all is good, all is relative.
Easier ride today, better roads until end of day approaching reservation. Rode along Roosevelt Lake, named after Teddy not FDR, dam built in 1906. One big climb, one steep descent. 65 miles, arms still sore from braking on the scary downhills yesterday.
But things took a turn to the good: as I was walking to the convenience store I saw an employee, so I asked him about the showers. Victor said he thought they should be open, so he unlocked them for me and I was able to grab a free shower -- bypassing the $5 fee to get a card to gain access. He said since it was Sunday the bossman wouldn't be around, so I told the group to jump on it!
